We took three of the B2BK kids (aged 8 and 13) to experience the Treetop Challenge at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. They’ve been nagging for ages to try this and it didn’t disappoint. In fact, we’re already planning to go back and do it again in the school holidays.
The course is made up of 4 levels from easy to extreme with a range of obstacles to tackle. Balance on a surfboard, swing from ropes, climb ladders, super fun ziplines and more. There’s a strict height requirement for kids to be able to reach 160cms to the palm of their hands, and it’s not worth trying to get around that as any shorter and they just won’t be able to reach. Most kids over the age of 8 will be fine with the green course, and possibly the red course, while older kids and adults who can reach 180cms with their palm can tackle the black levels.
The instructors were all really helpful and gave a very thorough but easy to understand lesson at the beginning of the course. Once you’ve had a few practice goes at the bottom of the first obstacle it’s really easy and quick to pick up. Clip on, clip off!
We tried the 3 green (easy) levels, which were definitely still tricky enough to keep us challenged and the highlight was definitely the “Croc Shock” zipline right over the crocodile enclosure! Yikes!
We loved the “go at your own pace” style which allowed for a few of us to shake a few nerves out at the beginning without feeling pressured to rush. To complete the whole course you’ll need around 4 hours. We completed the 3 green levels in around 2 hours.
It was fantastic to watch the kids really use their brains, initiative and team work to work their way through the course. There was lots of “c’mon you can do it” and “here let me help you” which was so great to hear.
