PLENTY of space, PLENTY of seating, PLENTY of Portuguese custard tarts.
If that sounds like your idea of a kid friendly cafe, the brand new Custard Canteen is for you.
From the baked goods geniuses that brought us BamBam Bakehouse and Cubby Bakehouse you’ll find their 3rd delicious installment at the Tallebudgera Recreation Centre, right near the beauty that is Tallebudgera Creek.
Kid friendly – YES! It’s got lots of seating options and plenty of space. You can sit at a bench table under and umbrella, pop yourself on one of the grassy spots with a picnic rug or relax in one of the wooden deck chairs scattered around the place. There’s also high chairs, the good ones.
The menu includes a range of brekky options with all the favourites from eggs on toast, to french toast toastie and for lunch you can grab a burger, salad or a hot dog. They have fresh croissants, self saucing cookies (yep you read that right) and DO NOT leave without a Portuguese custard tart. They’re famous for them, and you’ll know why when you try one.
The only thing I wish they had was a couple of more kid friendly options. Yes the tarts and croissants will be a hit with kids, but it would be great to see just a plain cheese toasty or avo on toast option. Oh and yes they do offer a babyccino (with or without marshmallows)
Be warned, as you’d expect, it’s busy but you won’t have to wait too long to find a spot to sit, and the staff are all super fun and friendly.
Custard Canteen passes the kid friendly test because…..
It’s outside! There’s lots of space and you won’t feel like you’re ruining everyone’s morning if the kids are being noisy. Also, baked goods……..delicious baked goods.
