Baby & Kids Clothing Swap

Introducing Burleigh Babies and Kids Clothing swap. We are a group of 3 local mums who want to provide options for families to swap their good quality, no longer required baby and kids clothing items for clothing they actually need.
Swap parties are fun, free and have a strong, positive environmental benefit. By diverting items from landfill and avoiding buying something new, you save water, resources and reduce emissions. Australians are currently disposing of 6000 kilograms of fashion and textile waste every 10 minutes. Clothing swaps are a great way to work as a community to reduce clothing waste. By passing on your clothes and accessories you are diverting materials into landfill and conserving resources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions – win win!
A Swap Party is an event where participants bring good quality items they no longer want and exchange them for other items. Participants exchange their items for tokens and once all the items are displayed, participants browse and swap the tokens for items donated by other people.
Our first event will focus on clothing and accessories for babies and children, size newborn (including premmie babies) up to size 8. Clothing will be checked for quality before being accepted. A limit of 20 items per person will apply to swap. As a rule of thumb, if you would be happy to give the items to your bestie then it’s ok to swap. Stained, pilled, ripped, faded, faulty, dirty clothing will not be accepted. All clothing should be freshly laundered.

During registration 9am-9.55am you can bring your clothing (up to 20 items) to be swapped for tokens (which will be used as currency during the swap). Clothing will be checked for quality before being accepted.
Participants who have pre registered can go straight to registration and collect their tokens.
In the weeks prior to the swap we will have drop off locations for those who would like to pre register. Bundle your clothes in a bag and include a registration form. We will collect and quality check your items and notify you (via email and/ or sms) of how many tokens you can collect at registration. We really encourage you to pre register so that we can get an idea of participant numbers and so our volunteers have more time to set up the clothing.
Swapping commences at 10am, clothing will be displayed by size/ gender. If more than one participant wants the same item, a volunteer will organize a quick game of ‘rock, paper, scissors’. Please don’t hoard items during the swap and don’t pick up more items than you have tokens for. Checkout (token exchange) will happen at exit. Keep it fun, engage with other swappers and volunteers.

Newborn 0000 (including premmie 00000) up to size 8 clothing and accessories only.
Only good quality items will be accepted.

You will be given one token for each item you bring that is approved up to a maximum of 20 items.
Socks, singlets, bows, ribbons, headbands may be bundled into groups of 5 items = 1 token
Underwear will not be accepted.
Once the items are dropped at pre registration or registration on the event day at the Swap Event they are no longer yours.
We are unable to return any non approved items, these will be recycled through Robina Op Shop.
Once the hosts announce the Swap party open, you may claim one item per token.
If two or more people want the same item, the host will arrange a game of ‘rock, paper, scissors’ to pick a winner
Do not hoard items and do not take more items than you have tokens for.
Hand your tokens in to staff at checkout on exit.
Any leftover items will be donated to Baby Give Back
Thanks for making this event and recycling your baby and children’s clothes.
Q-What happens to left over items?
A- Items not swapped or leftover will be donated to local charity Baby Give Back
Q- If I pre register how will I know you have received and quality checked my items?
A- We will send you an email/ sms with confirmation of how many items have been accepted and how many tokens you can collect from registration..
Q- Can I donate more than 20 items?
A- Yes you can although only a maximum of 20 tokens will be issued. Accessories (singlets, head bands, sock pairs) will be grouped into 5 items = 1 token issued.
Q- What if I can’t use all my tokens?
A- We can’t guarantee what items /sizes will be donated to swap. Once you’ve picked items for your own children maybe consider choosing clothing for friends, family and mother’s to be. The great thing about donating your items to be swapped is that other families will hand choose your pre loved clothing for their children and give it a second life and you’ve helped the environment by diverting items from landfill.
